Job Summary:
As a Commis 3, you will be responsible for assisting with basic food preparation tasks, maintaining cleanliness and organization in the kitchen, and supporting other kitchen staff. This role provides an excellent opportunity to develop culinary skills under the supervision of more senior chefs. You will gain hands-on experience and an understanding of kitchen operations, which will serve as a foundation for further career development in the culinary industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Basic Food Preparation:
  • Assist with basic food prep tasks, such as washing, peeling, cutting, and chopping vegetables, fruits, and proteins.
  • Prepare simple ingredients as directed by senior kitchen staff.
  • Ensure the mise en place is organized and ready for the day’s service.
  • Assisting in Cooking:
  • Help senior chefs with cooking and assembling dishes in a specific section of the kitchen (e.g., pastry, prep, or grill).
  • Support in basic cooking tasks like boiling, frying, grilling, or blanching food under supervision.
  • Follow the chef’s instructions to ensure dishes are prepared to the correct specifications.
  • Maintaining Kitchen Hygiene & Safety:
  • Keep your work area clean and organized according to the kitchen’s hygiene and safety standards.
  • Follow proper food handling procedures, including safe storage and sanitization of kitchen equipment and utensils.
  • Assist with cleaning tasks, including washing dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment.
  • Stock Control:
  • Assist in receiving deliveries and checking the quality and quantity of goods.
  • Help store food products properly, following storage guidelines to maintain freshness and minimize waste.
  • Report any discrepancies or damaged goods to senior kitchen staff.
  • Supporting the Kitchen Team:
  • Work closely with other kitchen staff to ensure the kitchen runs efficiently.
  • Provide assistance to other team members during busy periods or as required.
  • Communicate effectively with other kitchen staff to maintain a smooth workflow.
  • Learning and Development:
  • Take the opportunity to learn and develop new culinary skills and techniques under the guidance of senior chefs.
  • Participate in on-the-job training to improve cooking and kitchen organization skills.
  • Show initiative in learning kitchen operations, cooking methods, and menu items.
  • Assisting in Special Requests:
  • Help accommodate customer dietary requirements, allergies, or special requests when directed by senior chefs.
  • Prepare garnishes, sauces, or other components of dishes as needed.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • A strong interest in cooking and the culinary arts.
  • No formal culinary qualifications required, but a passion for food and willingness to learn are essential.
  • Basic understanding of kitchen operations, food safety, and hygiene standards.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Basic knife skills and familiarity with kitchen equipment and tools are a plus.
  • Previous experience in a kitchen environment (even as an intern or part-time worker) is beneficial but not essential.
